Known across Sanskrit texts as Asana and Bijaka — the “victorious essence” — Vijaysar is one of Ayurveda’s most celebrated anti-diabetic herbs. Its deep red heartwood, used continuously from the Charaka Samhita onward, gives water steeped overnight in a Vijaysar tumbler its characteristic amber colour.
Vijaysar appears in the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Bhavaprakasha and Ashtanga Hridaya — recommended singly and within hundreds of compound formulations across the systems of Ayurvedic care.
